Air Quality Egg update
Posted: October 10th, 2012 | Author: admin | Filed under: Uncategorized | 3 Comments »I think it is time for another AQE update.
Events: Today we will be at the New Green City Event at Union Square in Manhattan, thanks to the support of Albert and Joe (Yaay!). Booth will be on the southern steps of Union Square across from the Whole Foods, 10am until 5pm. That’s right now!
Production: Things are going well, with the usual bumps that we are getting over. The main issue at this point is the enclosure. It is the single most expensive part of the egg, and we need to make sure it is perfect before we send it off to the injection molding house.
It is also worth mentioning that your eggs are going to be completely made in the USA. Parts are from everywhere, but the manufacture, assembly, enclosures and production is all US based.
Pic above is an AQE base station board in the pick and place machine. Astute viewers will notice that there is no paste on the board – because the machine is being taught the part locaions, not doing a production run.
“It is also worth mentioning that your eggs are “..
Really? Most of us don’t actually care where it’s made we’d rather just get the eggs we funded you for on Kickstarter.
This is supposed to be a global project, getting all “USA! USA!” on us doesn’t help.
One of the reasons I mention that it is made in the USA is pollution.
Because the USA has much stricter environmental laws than (say) China, offshoring manufacturing is another way to offshore pollution. So saying it is made in the USA is also saying it is made more environmentally soundly. It is a pollutions sensor of a sort, and we’d like to pollute as little as we can when we make it.
Really?
The USA is the 2nd largest polluting nation on the planet and is not that far off What China produces.
All of the countries further down the list of the top 10 of world polluters have stricter environmental laws than China and arguably even the USA.
By your logic, you should be having these built in Poland (#19 in polluters list) which also happens to have a healthy manufacturing base.
Your product, your choice but don’t pretend.
